The screens are constructed of corrugated stainless steel punch plate containing solid fish troughs within each corrugation to enhance fish protection. The fish troughs provide continuous pathways for fish to move along the screen with minimal exposure to the perforated screen. This feature allows even very small bodied fish to pass the screen without being impinged on the screen.
In an overflow ramp orientation the fish troughs also provide for rapid movement of sand past the screen thereby substantially reducing problems of sand plugging that is common on overflow screens.
Corrugating the screen provides increased stiffness and strength to the screen reducing the support needed behind the screen.
Corrugating increases the screen area per square foot of panel surface allowing lower through screen flow velocity for the same flow compared to a flat screen.
